SIP Hay Making Machinery

STAR 800 PTO driven dual rotary hay rake is for the large scale grower and professional contractor. The Star 800 has a high working capacity and controls for a wide range of working widths (single and dual windrows) to accommodate different crop bulk and conditions. A PTO powered rotary rake produces a superior windrow (swath) compared to pulled and other rake types and this rake has several simple to use adjustments to best accommodate different crop and ground conditions.

FEATURES OF THE SIP STAR 800 Dual Rotary Rake

  • The Star 800 has a main central beam with self steering wheels at the rear.
  • The two rotors are suspended off the central beam and float independently running on their own Sip Autoflow undercarriage for excellent stability and accurate tine position.
  • The rotors are based on the sucessful single rotor Star series of rakes and have many similar features.
  • The rotors spin in the same direction to enable either single or double windrows to be produced.
  • Additionally, a side discharging rake gives the option of making multiple passes into a single windrow by either double handling the crop, or by raking a down pass with an up pass into a single swath. With this approach a very light crop can be formed into a single swath.
  • The flexibility to choose between a single or double windrow is critical for large rakes as a baler may not properly handle a heavy crop raked into a single windrow.
  • Many other brands of large rakes have counter rotating rakes and can only produce a single windrow - SIP dual rotor rakes give you this flexibility to suit your crop conditions.
  • The windrow (swath) is well formed for superior feeding into baler or pickup wagon.
  • SIP rakes generally have more fingers (tines) per arm than equivalent sized machines for faster/cleaner raking.
  • A fast raking performance with a clean raking action gives maximum crop yield.
  • Gentle on the crop with less contamination, and thereby ensuring maximum nutrient value in the crop.

The working width is adjusted by hydraulically positioning each rotor relative to the central beam. With the two rotors fully extended, two windrows are formed.

With closer rotor settings, a single windrow is formed in various widths up to 6.7 metres.

Strong counterbalance springs reduce the ground pressure of the rotor enabling better floatation across the ground.

The rotor pivots in two directions to accurately follow the ground.

The clean finish is typical of the entire SIP Star range; clean, fast and gentle on the crop.

The rear steering wheels allows the driver to simply focus on the tractor line with excellent manoeuvrability. When turning, the rear wheels automatically steer the backend outwards to better follow the tractor line. The operator does not drive the machine as if it is a fixed truck trailer requiring corners to be taken wide.

Road traffic high visibility boards and lighting are standard equipment.

The two rotors are hydraulically raised for transport.

The tallest rake arms and windrow curtain can be removed and stored in their transport position (on the central beam) to reduce overall height.

When fully raised the rake has an overall transport width of 2.88 metres.

STAR 800 - Working
This Star 800, working near Tamworth, NSW, is forming two windrows as the crop is relatively heavy for the baler. The windrows are well formed even during padock turns.
